Managing the supply chain for optimum efficiency and quality
MAHLE Powertrain operates a comprehensive and flexible Supply Chain Management strategy,. Many years of experience of complete engine build programmes and associated cylinder head and block machining bring an extensive knowledge of the logistics processes and having the right materials and parts available at the right time.
In line with the MAHLE group, SAP is used at the heart of MAHLE powertrain as our ERP system including the following modules:-
- Sales and Distribution (SD)
- Demand Planning (DP)
- Purchasing
- Production Planning (PP)
- Materials Management/Product Development
- Quality Management (QM)
- Warehouse Management (WM)
This ensures that we, our suppliers and sub-contractors, deliver components and services to the correct specification, on time and to budget.
This is underpinned by our quality systems which continuously assess our suppliers to ensure that they meet the required standards of quality, cost, delivery and management performance. Appropriate synergies are developed between MAHLE sites, utilising common systems, tools and processes to promote best practices from the first prototype stage all the way through to series production.
Effective systems and processes are in place to ensure the traceability of quality assured materials from the supply source to the manufacturing facility and ultimately to the consumer complying with industry standards. Integrated supply and stock control systems, including MRP, MPS, Kanban and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), are utilized to ensure that materials, Work in Progress (WIP) and finished stock are maintained at cost effective levels throughout the business.
Elecrtonic Data interchange (EDI) secures the data interchange with customers whether it be for demand planning or advanced delivery information.
Our objective is always to ensure that the manufacturing project team and our Supply Chain Management processes work together seamlessly and are focused on delivering assured quality products according to the customer's specification, within budget and on schedule.
